First, SURVIVE. Then tell the TRUTH.
Firstly I’d like to thank ‘One World Publications’ for sending this book to me! Now I’ve had this book on my “Top Anticipated Buys of 2015” ever since Little Book Owl received it for review way back when. After finally getting my hands on this book I ignored every currently reading book and started it.
I LOVED IT SO FREAKING MUCH!!!!!
Properly, loved so very much oh my god.
Incoherent thoughts are running through my head because of how good this book is!
Illuminae starts with an email from “The Illuminae Group” and what follows is a dossier of files and info on the attack on Kerenza- the home of our two main characters; Ezra and Kady. But also documents what goes on in the ships Alexander, Copernicus and Hypatia. The documents range from chat logs and web pages to actual conversations with an AI and what the ships all look like! All on black and white pages- THIS IS SO FUCKING AWESOME!!!!!
Written like a film and instantly gripping *insert many many heart emojis* with expletives blacked out and stains such as blood carefully inserted this adds to the feel of it being a real life dossier and just omfg makes it so cool!!!
600 pages long this is a book that I flew threw quicker than Steve Rogers can work out a phone. That reminds me, THEY ARE SO MANY MARVEL REFERENCES intentional? Probably! But also inserted are authors names (albeit all dead but still!)
The way this book is written out instantly helps me to develop my own images of the characters and what their surroundings are as if I were the characters. The story, well, files start off with two interviews between Kady and Ezra. A couple of teenagers who broke up the day their world falls.
The year is 2575 and Kerenza (where our heroes live) is attacked by the enemy fire of two mega-corporations. Unfortunately nobody warned the people who lived on Kerenza so it literally is a race for safety. Obviously they survive and end up on separate ships; Alexander and Hypatia. Slowly, but surely they begin to find out what is going on, will they ever get to their destination- the Heimdall Station (MARVEEEEEEL).But most importantly, will the psycho AI AIDEN get turned back on and cause more chaos? And they find out something worse… something deadly.
There’s a mysterious plague that no one will say what it is or how it is caused.
The following events that follow Kady and Ezra make this book in my mind one of my top 10 books read this year. An unforgettable, original and heart poundingly brilliant book. This kept me reading and reading until I turned the final page.
This has got me so pumped for the next book next year especially if the next is going to be as plot-twisty as this!
