You and Me, Always by Jill Mansell can be summed up in three simple words.
First off, I must say a big thank you to Elizabeth at Headline who sent me over a copy as soon as I received it I read it ASAP and then again in December. It’s so good! I love every single page and word. Jill NEVER fails to make me smile I love all of her books. In fact I own all of her books:
At the start of this year my favourite book was “Don’t Want To Miss A Thing” but after reading “You and Me, Always” oh my gosh has that changed!
You and Me, Always is about a 25 year old woman called Lily and on her 25th birthday she opens the last letter her mother (who died when she was 8) ever wrote to her and it soon transpires that for every birthday that she has been without her mother, her mother wrote her a letter. So this birthday is no different, right?
This birthday in the letter her mother reveals the last name of her one true love who is sadly, not Lily’s father (but he does show up part way through the novel), but he is an exceptionally nice man called Declan who has a flat in London but buys a house in the village Lily grew up in; the beautiful Cotswold village of Stanton Langley.
On the same day she also meets Eddie Tessler, a movie star who is hiding in friends home and of course there is a problem. A problem in the form of her childhood friend Dan.
Dan who is a womanizer.
Dan who is a pilot.
Dan who just so happens to be hiding a secret from Lily and has done for years.
Secrets and feelings will emerge in this gorrrrgeous new novel by this best selling author and the title? Just wait till you find out the reason.
Crafted in a way only Jill can do, this is a 5 star book that is perfect to start the New Year off.
They say it takes a village to raise a child and in Lily’s case there was a village there to raise her. But it took me one day to fall in love with this book and I can assure you, if you pick this book up in January then you will too!
