It’s a very special post today, not only is it a review- ITS A BLOG TOUR REVIEWWWW
I’d like to thank Alice over at HARPER360UK for not only sending me a copy to review, but sending me the hardcover copy and it is so so beautiful!
Today’s review is all about the third instalment of the Dorothy Must Die series; Yellow Brick War, written by Danielle Paige!
Dorothy Must Die #3
In this dark, action-packed third book in the New York Times bestselling Dorothy Must Die series, Amy Gumm—the new girl from Kansas—must do everything in her power to save Kansas, kill Dorothy, and make Oz a free land once more.
Amy Gumm’s mission to take down Dorothy Gale is not going according to plan. Dorothy has found a way to bridge the worlds of Oz and Kansas, and if the power-hungry dictator of Oz has her way, Kansas will be destroyed forever. Now, Amy has to team up with the Revolutionary Order of the Wicked to save her home, restore the balance between the magic and nonmagic worlds, maybe get the guy—and kill that not-so-sweet Kansas farm girl once and for all.
In the third installment of the New York Times bestselling Dorothy Must Die series, Danielle Paige’s twisted versions of beloved Oz characters are back, including the biggest, baddest, most famous of all: the Wicked Witch of the West.
Welcome to the other side of the rainbow. Here there’s danger around every corner, and magic shoes won’t be able to save you.

And oh my gosh! If you have read the previous book; The Wicked Will Rise, then you know it left off with the death of someone we all know from the tales of Dorothy & Oz.
The Wizard is dead!
Slain by none other than Miss Kansas herself, Dorothy Gale.
Amy returns home and starts back at school again, to find herself making unlikely allies. Now Amy must find her way back to Oz and kill Dorothy once and for all.
Now, I devoured the first book; Dorothy Must Die. The second book; The Wicked Will Rise, had me gripped. This third one? Oh my gosh I think it’s become my favourite of the three! There’s always a lingering doubt with sequel books, they usually don’t live up to the standards the first book has/first few books. This was not the case.
Yellow Brick War is a fantastic book that leaves you begging for more!
I read this in one sitting and once I finished I went straight online and ordered myself the novellas- I NEEDED MORE OZ
Since it is a short book, around 270 pages, the plot went through quick. It was kind of rushed, but at the same time I still enjoyed it. I wanted to know how everything would turn out. I wanted to know what Amy would do about everything going on in Oz. Plus I just wanted to make sure Nox was okay! Like I don’t know what I’d do if Nox is killed off!
I had heard this was going to be the finale, goodreads had claimed this would be a 400 page book- then I found out there was going to be a 4th book and jumped up and down-
Beginning where we left our characters in The Wicked Will Rise, Amy finds herself back in Kansas with Nox, Dorothy, et al. At first I wasn’t sure about this book since it started back in Kansas and Amy had to spend some time there, I mean we had just had 2 whole books of her saying how Kansas never felt like home, she had nothing there. But seeing her mum and finding out how she actually wanted to change just melted my heart!! Like seriously for 2 books I’ve been mega against this bitch for leaving Amy behind but now ahhhhh.
The plot was nowhere near as predictable as I had envisioned (5 stars for that Danielle!!)
But I also loved the introduction of the Nome King- TOTALLY UNEXPECTED!!!!
Also, Nox and Amy are my book OTP!
“Forget the order I’ve fallen inlove with you too”
But as we get a new villain in this book; The Nome King- this makes me think that the *final* book was split in two and the fourth book will be our last. The ending of this book definitely gives off the THERE’SGONNABEANOTHERBOOK vibe.
I could just sit and read Danielle’s writing all day, there’s something about it that I can just be transformed back into the world after having time away from it and feel like I’ve not forgotten anything!
Amy is a fantastic narrator- so much attitude I love it!!! We’re presented with a harsher but more focused Amy in this book which shows just how much she has developed over the three books! Not only has she got the usual teen dramas going on but she also has an entire land to help (as if things couldn’t be any tougher for her?!!) Amy also has one heck of a battle to face if she’s going to help Nox and the witches to save Oz, oh yeah and kill Dorothy!
We don’t spend most of this book in Oz, (which is incredibly refreshing but also proves that Danielle can write a book not set in another world), we actually spend a large portion back in Kansas at high school. Amy and Nox do have a lot of drama but Idc cause AT LEAST THE RELATIONSHIP IS THERE NOW.
Fast paced, addictive, Danielle knows how to write a book and keep you hooked! With Amy questioning whether or not she was becoming like Dorothy, everything that happened was just keeping me wanting to read on and on till I had no pages left!
The ending is a real shocker, with the alliance of Amy + …..
Read it yourself! I’m not telling-
Well, I’ll say one thing, it will leave you wanting 2017 already!!!!
Danielle Paige is a graduate of Columbia University and currently lives in New York City. Before turning to young adult literature, she worked in the television industry, where she received a Writers Guild of America Award and was nominated for several Daytime Emmys. Dorothy Must Die
