This is a spoiler free review of ”The Leaving” by Tara Altebrando.
I received this book in exchange for an honest review via Bloomsbury- thanks guys!!
Six were taken. Eleven years later, five come back–with no idea of where they’ve been.
Eleven years ago, six kindergarteners went missing without a trace. After all that time, the people left behind moved on, or tried to.
Until today. Today five of those kids return. They’re sixteen, and they are . . . fine. Scarlett comes home and finds a mom she barely recognizes, and doesn’t really recognize the person she’s supposed to be, either. But she thinks she remembers Lucas. Lucas remembers Scarlett, too, except they’re entirely unable to recall where they’ve been or what happened to them. Neither of them remember the sixth victim, Max. He doesn’t come back. Everyone wants answers. Most of all Max’s sister Avery, who needs to find her brother–dead or alive–and isn’t buying this whole memory-loss story
What I thought:
I went into this book knowing it was a story about some missing children who turn up 11 years after their disappearance with no memories of the previous 11 years.
I loved this book! As this was blurbed as “perfect for fans of We Were Liars” I was a little sceptical as I had not enjoyed that book but this one I loved! The characters are rich and so well developed even though they themselves hardly know anything about themselves. If that makes sense?
This book though was just fantastic!
I was instantly captivated by this story, 6 children go missing, 11 years later only 5 return with no memory. Told in 3 POV’s. 2 from the children who have returned (Scarlett and Lucas) and 1 from a child whose brother went missing (Avery). It is a fantastic and just so so good!
As the story unfolded I was itching to know more about what had happened to them and how they would cope with their new life, but also itching to know what had happened to the 6th child!
Words cannot begin to express just how good this book is! I implore you to read it! It is more than perfect for a fan of We Were Liars. It’s a heart-stopping, thrill ride that ANY fan of a book that can hook you in within a chapter will love!!
Seriously, I didn’t once put this book down. This is addicting, unforgettable and I promise you will not be able to shut the book until you have finished.
I just want to re-read this book so badly!! It’s an amazing novel and will deserve the hype it will no doubt create.
I gave this book 5 Stars!
Releasing in June this is one book you must pre-order now!
Where can I buy it?
